I made Ga language popular through my music – Adane Best

Renowned highlife musician Joseph Amoah, popularly known as Adane Best, is calling for acknowledgment for his significant role in promoting the Ga language through music over the past three decades. The “Se Wobre Na wanyaa” hitmaker believes that his contribution to preserving and popularizing the Ga language deserves recognition.

Adane Best asserts that, particularly after the music group Wolumei became inactive, he played a crucial role in championing the Ga language through his music, and his songs remain relevant to this day.

He highlights that it takes a talented musician to have such a lasting impact, and the Ga community holds him in high regard for the role he has played. Adane Best proudly states that he made the Ga language popular through his music, with many of his songs sung in Ga, appealing to a wide audience.

He emphasizes his close connection with the Gas, stating, “There is no major Ga activity that I have not been booked to perform at. In fact, the Gas cherish me like gold, and I don’t take that for granted.”

Adane Best’s personal connection to the Ga language is rooted in his upbringing. Although his parents are not Gas, he spent most of his life with his grandfather in Adedenkpo, near Palladium in Accra. This environment naturally led him to learn and embrace the Ga language.

Despite the appreciation he receives from the Ga community, Adane Best believes that it is not enough, given his status as a solo musician who has been actively promoting the Ga language for 30 years. He points to the need for greater recognition and respect for veteran musicians in Ghana, akin to the reverence shown to their Nigerian counterparts.

Adane Best draws attention to the practice in Nigeria, where veteran musicians like 2 Face and P-Squares are highly respected and acknowledged for their contributions to the music industry. He laments that in Ghana, the focus often centers on who has the biggest trending song at the moment, overshadowing the valuable contributions made by artists with a history of impactful songs.
