Ghanaian businessman, Dr. Daniel McKorley, has revealed his keen interest in purchasing the Premier League club, Nottingham Forest. The Chief Executive Officer of the McDan Group of Companies made this announcement during a Joy Thought Leadership seminar held at the Labadi Beach Hotel.
Dr. McKorley, 52 years old, disclosed that Nottingham Forest is the only club he supports apart from Ghana Premier League club, Great Olympics. He expressed his longstanding affiliation with Nottingham Forest, dating back to when the club was in the third division. His passion for the team stems from his desire to acquire the club.
He shared, “The only team I support in the world apart from Oly [Great Olympics] is Nottingham Forest. I have been a supporter of Nottingham Forest when Nottingham was even in the third division. Why? Because I want to buy that team. I want to buy Nottingham Forest, imagine with all this development going on.”
Furthermore, Dr. McKorley expressed his aspiration for significant investment in the local football system, with the hope that over half of the Nottingham Forest team would consist of Ghanaian players competing in the Premier League.
“McDan buys Nottingham Forest and every time you see about 60% of the players [in the team] from the English league are from Ghana,” he stated.
The Joy Sports and Joy Business Thought Leadership seminar centered around the theme “Football Economy: Repurposing our approach to development, the Saudi Arabian experience.” The event brought together experts to explore how Ghana can draw insights from the Saudi Arabian model to enhance the development of its football industry.
