A 31-year-old man, who sexually assaulted a one-year, seven-month-old baby at Madina Social Welfare, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison with hard labor by an Adentan Circuit Court.
Kafui Goli was found guilty of defilement at the end of the trial, presided over by Judge Sedinam Awo Balokah.
The victim reportedly went to play in the convict’s room, and upon her return, her diaper was found to be stained with blood.
The court, in handing down the sentence, took into consideration the heinous nature of the crime, the breach of trust placed in Goli by the baby’s mother, and the innocence of the baby.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, stated that the complainant was a beautician, while the accused, now a convict, worked in a hotel.
According to the prosecution, Goli lived in the same house with the sister of the complainant at Madina Social Welfare.
The complainant had two children, both girls, aged one year and seven months.
On November 19, 2021, when Goli returned from work at about 4 pm, some children in the house, including one of the complainant’s daughters, followed him to his room.
The complainant later went to Goli’s room to retrieve her daughter (the victim).
Goli requested that the victim be allowed to play in his room.
Around 7 pm, the complainant returned to Goli’s room to prepare the victim for sleep and discovered that the baby’s diaper was stained with blood.
The complainant confronted Goli, who neither accepted nor denied the accusation of defilement.
The complainant reported the incident to the police in Madina, and a police medical form was issued for the victim to seek medical care.
After a medical examination, the complainant returned the endorsed medical form to the police.
This case involves a shocking act of child abuse, and the court has appropriately sentenced the offender to a lengthy prison term.
