Isaac Nyarko, the Chairman of the Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold, has disclosed that the owner of Menzgold, Samuel Nana Appiah (NAM1), owes the Dansoman Branch of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church an amount of GH¢2,000,000. He mentioned that during a meeting in Dansoman, the SDA Church approached the aggrieved customers’ executives for assistance in recovering the locked funds.
Nyarko made these claims during an interview on “Burning Issues” on Adom FM, hosted by Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom. He also stated that over ten pastors had contacted the leadership of the aggrieved customers regarding their funds trapped with Menzgold. Nyarko alleged that there are numerous prominent individuals who have invested money with Menzgold but are hesitant to speak out due to concerns about public ridicule.
NAM1 had recently declared in a statement that he would release GH¢5 million to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to expedite payments to customers. However, Nyarko asserted that only GH¢2.5 million has been provided and accused NAM1 of not taking the situation seriously.
Nyarko suggested that the government should appoint a receiver to mediate payments between the customers and Menzgold. This approach, he believed, would help clarify the total number of individuals owed by NAM1.
Nyarko also speculated that NAM1’s decision to repay customers may have been influenced by the 15-year jail sentence handed to Ato Essien, the former CEO of the defunct Capital Bank.
